Random plug.

I know that this is an odd post, yet I can't leave this alone. Hyundai is my new favorite vehicle manufacturer. They have come from the crap and completely redefined themselves. Car & Driver and other vehicle magazines can't write enough good things about them. Hyundai has really done it. They are now a real good car company.

I valet parked for a few hotels in town and really took a liking to Hyundai. I used to hate even the look of them, but now they are really fantastic looking, and not to mention, the best price in the world for a great car. Don't get me started on their 10 year 100,000 mile warranty either; I've been reading that you won't even need to use the warranty because they are built so well.

Ah, the beauty. This is the newest Hyundai, the "Genesis" coming in late 2008 and is set to compete with BMW, Mercedes, and Lexus. Also, it's half the price!!!!!!!! Check it out (link)

Oh, my gosh this car is Bad A! I want one.

Do we?

What I want to know is do we look alike? Or, am I adopted? Mehn, I just don't look like anyone in my family.

This was taken two weeks ago at Jon's graduation. (Congrats bro!) Rob and Wendy flew in from Cannaidia, mom and dad flew in from Nashvegas, and Julie and Patience drove in from Herruueston. We had a great time together. It had been too long since the Kever Clan was together!
Some more pics-

Rob, Jon, Julie, and Charlene riding the trolley in Uptown.

Us all getting back on the trolley after shopping and eating gelato at Paciugo.

And Mother's Day fell on the same weekend. We went out to eat at Gotto's.

Alright, that's enough.

Apartment Life update...

We had another successful event last night. We ordered barbecue from a place in town and served it to our residents. I think we had 75-85 people eat ALL the food in about 45 minutes. Amber and I have been really encouraged by the turnouts we've been having at our events. We love people and hope to have lots of opportunities to talk with others about Christ. After all, that is the reason we are here on earth.

If you don't know what Apartment Life is -here is a (link)
There website is kinda cheezie, but you'll get the idea.

These are some pics from last night. In the third pic, behind the people smiling, you can see the line for food was out the door. The line was out the door and wrapped completely around the community room until we ran out. What a blessing.

Anyone...

Hey,
Anyone ever heard of Keith L. Cooper? I was looking over/cleaning my music collection, and had his CD. I listened to it and he is quite good. His CD's are instrumental. He plays an acoustic guitar like mad. Wait, I am listening to it while I'm typing and I just ran into some crap. Let me skip this. Okay, now it is back to the good guitar playing. He may be some Phil Keaggy rip off, I'm not sure. Check 'em out. (link)

I like beer.

I'll just step out and say it, beer is a fantastic beverage that can be consumed on a hot day, cold day, during a celebration, at night, after Church, at a ball game, etc.. I confess, I love to figure out any occasion to fit beer in. For example: It's sunny, time for a beer - I'm happy, time for a beer - Listening to great music, time for a beer - Finally taught myself to type the correct way (I'm still not very fast), time for a beer. You get the idea.

A few favorites-
fat tire (all) ------Boddingtons
New Castle ------Wexford Irish Creme Stout
Hoegaarden -----Michael Shea's
Amberbock ------Shinerbock
Sam Adam's ------Coors Lite (Golfing)
Blue Moon -------Stella Atrois
South Paw --------"The Highlife"
Rolling Rock -and of course-- Free

A little justice

One of the funniest and equally saddest ideas in college, so far anyway, is The Books. Just when you finally get some grasp on how you are going to pay for this unbelievably expensive education, you walk to the bookstore, add up All the books you may or may not need (because the teachers can't decide on teaching the same way, so they all have different requirements), the bookstore clerk tells you the price , and before you can faint, you mess yourself in front of thirty some students, who are already freaking out. Brisk wind? Nope. Maybe more? But, there is some information that could keep this problem from happening again.

The internet, of course, is the place to buy All your books. I went to the school bookstore to get a Used book for a new class I'm taking, and it was only $20 dollars off the outrageous new price of $100. What a crock. There must be a better way, I thought. So, I went on the internet, looked on Amazon, Ebay, and half.com, and found the book I needed for class used for the low, low price of $17.50. Justice.

Now, while I am walking in the halls at school, I often find myself instructing other freaked out students how to fight back against these overpriced, one-use books.

What about buyback? I promise that you can get a better price from an actual student buying your books online than you could get from your local college rip off store.

Diggable.

(I realize diggable is not a word. Thanks though.)

I like blogbarger's style of posting music. I can't do that yet, but here are diggable newbies.

Amos Lee- First off is my new most listened to artist. I overheard his music at Starbucks one day. He is classified as blues/folk, which is also one of my new favorite styles of music. Specific track-Arms of a woman

Without Gravity- My good friend (to keep him anonymous I will call him) Blane Shoberts turned me on to this Icelandic band. They are a refreshingly mellow and rock out a steel guitar on some tracks. I am not sure how you would classify this band's style, and I think that is why I like them. Specific track-Country

A
qualung- This is just a new find for me. They fluctuate between mellow and a little harder, yet somehow the music is relaxing. Specific track- Strange and Beautiful

The Killers- I like all their CD's. Enough said.

Mat Kearney- Christian artist pulling a Jars of Clay sneak into the secular world, yet still have hidden Christian lyrics and a fantastic sound. Definitely buy-able on all levels. Specific track-Nothing left to lose

That is all for now. I'll keep you posted on all the others that I've found.

Skoos, part I

My Professor and I were talking the other day after class and we noticed a few tools (for instance: manners, ethics, what to do when you start making money, how much food to eat, and so on) that schools (mostly public) aren't doing such a good job equipping kids with anymore. This led me to think of some classes that should be offered in (public) schools today.

Ethics-
Covers the analysis and employment of concepts such as right and wrong, good and evil, and responsibility (wikipedia.org). This is a class that might have been taught in schools a long time ago, but today seems to be absent.

Etiquette-
Hmm. This one should be obvious. I can think of many situations this would be beneficial. (cell phones, restaurants, parking lots, and I could go on forever)

Home Economic Reform- Are you kidding. Do I even have to explain? Nutrition would also be a great addition to this class due to how overweight this society is. A clean stable home may cut down on sickness too.

People- This class could be for tackling narcissism, racism, and also any ignorances of people. If tackled ahead of time, maybe these tricky subjects could be attacked and hopefully put to rest (I know that is a long shot).
To this I will add a recent article excerpt-- A report released last week named college students today more in love with themselves than any previous generation. (full article)

World Religions- If this place we send our kids called school is suppose to educate them to join society, wouldn't it be beneficial to teach them what they are Actually going to run into? I think religious ideas are all around us and a proper education of All Religions would help kids understand this melting pot we call The United States of America and other countries for that fact.

Golf- I think team sports are great and all, but I also think that a sport like golf, teaches personal struggles and how to personally battle them. What I mean is that golf is stressful, emotional, exciting, and encouraging for a game that "You" are your own team, and if you fail, you lose. I already know what you are thinking about this one, it is that I love golf so much why not put it in school. But, I also see the potential of growing kids' minds through this game. Plus it is just so fun.

I will continue this at another time. Let me know your thoughts.

Shattered Dreams!

I have never second guessed my decisions in life like I did today. The only two people on the planet that I would go Crazy over if I saw them in real life are playing golf together this week. Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods. "But where are they playing?" you ask.1 "In Dallas, TX where you decided at the last minute to move and go to school?" NO! Charlotte, NC where I chose not to go to school and move at the last minute.

Update- Tiger Wins!!! Oh well, maybe I'll get to see him next time.

"But wait, wasn't the PGA tour playing right down the street last week?" Yes, but no Tiger....!!!

1. The "you" I am referring to in "you ask," is either you the reader or my inner-monologue; I can't tell.

Modernistic Theology

I went to Border's bookstore yesterday and bought a newer Donald Miller book -Searching for God knows what.- and I am through the first two chapters. Already I've come to a few thoughts of his style of writing/thinking: first, I think he may fall on the thought of "Relativity." and may not realize it (ironic) , Second, After reading Doug Searle's blog post(My Theological Nest), I think Doug is right about parts of tradition and I think this book, sort of, makes all who think in traditional thought patterns of writing (which I think Donald Miller means life overall ass well) is something that needs to be completely reformed. Not that I completely disagree. Then, what about the churches and christians that do "it" right? Always the question I have from this type of book.

Maybe this is the bad side of my brain, or maybe I woke up on the wrong side of the pill, but this style of writing is very cool and all, except it has an even better chance of coming off as completely arrogant. It seems to feed a group of people that need some reason to dislike their traditional thoughts of how the church "should work." What?!

I do not have the whatever-brings-them-in (to church) mentality. Maybe this is why I don't necessarily agree with all the thought patterns in this book, so far. I mean if we want lost people in church so bad, lets cut to the chase--FREE BEER!!!!!!--- This will bring more lost folks and the Cool/Modernistic theologians into the church than anything else, Guaranteed!

Let me know your thoughts..

A quick praise.

-Praise God for spell check.
This is probably the best invention for this vocabularian and wordy reject. I think just in these few sentences I've misspelled a bunch. I just misspelled, misspelled. Dummy. It is possible that, due to genetics, my fingers are so fat (phat) that I hit too many keys at once. Not sure.Though, thanks to spell check I don't feel quite like the monkey I tend to portray ,while showing of my fancy typing-not looking at the screen until finished- professional method. I call it "the typing no look." And yes, I did learn some of this fantastic art from my father, the " one finger swirling wonder", where it stops no one knows art form. Thanks Pop. I confess, looking at the screen while typing really is an improvement, but still the urge is there to get lost in the beauty of those black keys on the keyboard and wish (Please Lord) that I could find the " ". Oh well.
